Applications are now open for the Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarships. The program aims to contribute to the UK’s international development and wider overseas interests, to support excellence in UK higher education, and to sustain the principles of the Commonwealth. The program is available for High-quality postgraduate students who wish to access training not available in their home countries, who wish or need to remain in their home country while they study, and who have the potential to enhance the development of their home countries with the knowledge and leadership skills they acquire.

Fully funded by the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarships are offered to citizens of certain developing Commonwealth countries. This scholarship program enables talented and motivated individuals to gain the knowledge and skills required for sustainable development and is aimed at those unable to study in the United Kingdom for financial and other reasons.

Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarships Benefits

Selected candidates for this Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) will be provided with tuition fees and study grants, where required. Other scholarships, awards, or bursaries that cover the same costs may not be held concurrently.

Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarships Eligibility

• The Common Wealth Scholarship aims to identify talented individuals who have the potential to make a change. To qualify for the scholarship, Applicants must meet the following criteria:
• A citizen of or has been granted refugee status by an eligible Commonwealth country, or be a British Protected Person permanently resident in an eligible Commonwealth country
• Hold a first degree of at least upper second class (2:1) standard. A lower qualification and sufficient relevant experience may be considered in certain cases.
• Unable to afford to study in the program without this scholarship.

How to Apply for the Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarships

• Eligible applicants for this Europe scholarship must apply to study an eligible master’s course at a UK university that is participating in the Distance Learning scheme. You must also apply for and secure admission to your university course in addition to applying for a Distance Learning Scholarship. You must check with your chosen university for their specific advice on when to apply, admission requirements, and rules for applying.
• Furthermore, you must make your application using the CSC’s online application system (use the apply button below) and any other application you must complete by your chosen university. The CSC will not accept any applications that are not submitted via the online application system.
• Candidates can apply for more than one course and/or to more than one university, but you may only accept one offer of a Distance Learning Scholarship. In order for your application to be eligible, you must submit the following documents:
• Proof that the applicant is a citizen or has refugee status in an eligible Commonwealth country: a copy of a valid passport (or national ID card) showing a photograph, date of birth, and country of citizenship
• Full transcripts detailing all higher education qualifications, including to-date transcripts for any courses currently being studied with certified translations if not in English.
• References from at least two individuals, on institutional letterhead or an email clearly showing the sender’s details.
• The CSC will not accept supporting documentation submitted outside the online application system. Supporting documentation uploaded to the online application system must be uploaded as files that are no more than 5 MB in size and must be in one of the following formats: PDF, doc, docx, odt, jpg, jpeg. Files submitted in any other format (including Zip files and PDF Portfolios) will NOT be accepted.
