🌟 National Children’s Day 2025: Read to Lead – Making Your Future Count!

Date: Tuesday, 27th May 2025

Venue: KIR Foundation Community Centre, Port Harcourt.

Every year on May 27th, Nigeria observes National Children’s Day! It is a celebration of childhood, education, and the rights of every young Nigerian to grow, learn, and thrive.

In Keeping It Real (KIR) Foundation, we mark this special day by doing what we love most; empowering children through literacy!

This year, we are excited to announce the 5th edition of our signature project:

The National Children’s Day Reading and Spelling Competition, with the powerful theme:

“Read to Lead – Making Your Future Count!

Honouring a Bright Star: Deborah Tola 🌟

This year’s competition holds deep meaning for us. We are dedicating the project to the loving memory of Deborah Tola, one of our extraordinary young leaders. Deborah was a Reading Corner Monitor in Baptist Day Primary School, and the 1st Runner-up of our  10th Anniversary Special Reading Competition. Her love for reading, leadership, and bright spirit continues to inspire the work we do in KIR Foundation.

What to Expect at the 2025 Reading and Spelling Competition 📚

The event will take place at our Community Centre in Amadi-Ama, Port Harcourt, and will bring together 24 pupils aged 9 to 13 from 12 underserved public and community primary schools.

The children will compete in friendly and educational reading and spelling challenges that promote:

Vocabulary development

Reading fluency

Public speaking and confidence

Comprehension and expression

Guess what? More than a challenge!

It is a platform for learning, growth, and empowerment.

Our goal is to cultivate a culture of reading among underserved children and promote the power of literacy as a tool for change. This aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4): Ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education for all.

The winners will get educational supplies, and each participant will receive a storybook and leave with a renewed self-belief, improved skills, and a deeper love for learning!

Join KIR Foundation, our partners, and supporters as we make May 27th, 2025, a memorable day for our children as literacy lights the path to leadership. Together, let’s make the future count; one child, one book, and one word at a time!
