World Usability Design Challenge 2024
Applications are now open for the World Usability Design Challenge 2024!
This year’s theme, “Designing for a Better World,” challenges applicants to tackle global issues like war, poverty, climate change, renewable energy, and social justice through innovative design.
Designers are invited to showcase how user research and evaluation have informed and impacted detailed design decisions. Submissions should demonstrate how user-focused design can create meaningful change and improve the human condition. Show the world—and UN decision-makers—how insightful design can make a difference.
Prizes:
- Gold – $1,250
- Silver – $1,000
- Bronze – $750
Note: Gold, Silver, and Bronze winners of the WUI DC Awards will be invited to present their impactful design work at the 2024 International HCI International Conference with complimentary registration. Their work can also be featured in the conference proceedings as a paper or late-breaking results, with a later manuscript deadline.
Eligibility:
- Everyone is welcome to take on the design challenge.
- The 2024, entries should be tightly argued with well-evidenced reports that provide details of user research and evaluations with compelling evidence of how this demonstrably improves both product and process value.
- Entries should address the WUD 2024 theme, Designing for a Better World. Winning entries will demonstrate how a combination of contextual user research and evaluation of quality in use have significantly contributed to the (improved) success of a digital product or service.
Judging Criteria:
- Quality of contextual/user research
- Quality of UX/outcomes evaluation
- The explicitness of connections between user-focused work and design decisions
- Quality of evidence for connections between user-focused work, design decisions, and outcomes
